Birchy Head is ideally located as a home base to explore the many
delightful nooks and crannies of Nova Scotia all year round. Contrary to
popular belief, Nova Scotia winters aren’t as harsh as many other parts
of Canada. This is a great help if you want more reliable access to an
international airport in winter months.
The warmest and most spectacular months are late May through mid-October. In the spring with colours bursting across the province, in summer with lilac bushes and gardens alight with colours and in the fall the trees popping in bright golds, reds, browns and rust. With rugged coast lines and sparkling fresh water lakes and rivers it can be a photographers dream.
If you’re into fishing, there are opportunities with lake, stream and ocean. In the lakes there are small mouth bass, speckled and rainbow trout, here is a map of the restocking undertaken by the provincial government. A fishing license is required but only about $15/season. There is also salmon fishing on the rivers and some First Nations communities offer an opportunity to see an ancient fishing wier in action. You can also charter deep see fishing craft (such as Blue Shark charters) if you like for tuna, sharks and more.
Like to go whale watching? There are a number of charters throughout the summer months. In fact, with a pair of good binoculars and maybe even a telescope you might see whales and dolphins right off the deck of Birchy Head itself…from your own home! But you can nip down to Peggy’s Cove or spend a glorious day in Lunenberg to go see the whales up close.
There are little coves and inlets all along the Nova Scotia coast. Some gentle and covered in trees and pastures, while others are rugged and rocky with spectacular cliffs. There are trails as well and one can take a day to hike the well groomed Cape Split trail just about an hours drive from Birchy Head. You can see the dramatic roiling of the Bay of Fundy currents mixing there…take a jacket even in summer though, it gets cool on the split!
Birchy Head is a fine Atlantic Canadian luxury home currently for sale. It’s a spectacular ocean front property ideal for a foreign buyer looking for a stable market where they know their investment is safe.
